Gallery Girl

Pull & Bear sweater, Zara box clutch and skirt Gallery-Ten 'Spring' Exhibition Nothing better than spending a quiet weekend some time at a cozy independent gallery and be cultured. There's a certain accessibility about smaller galleries, the ambience is more relaxed, usually more contemporary and less of a formal mystery of ancient history in the surroundings. Independent galleries are worth the visit every now and then, and definitely has the same triumph as discovering a little treasure filled cove of a vintage shop. Artworks have the true power to inspire and even if you aren't a professional within the arts, good art can still speak to the individual. So drop by an art gallery near you the next time you have no plans for the weekend and want to do something different. Joan x

This Season's New Pastel

Remember how 'pink' was the IT colour that dominated most of the bleak winter chill, hence the 'pink coat' was one of the most sought after looks that came out of the season's most lust worthy item. Resembling shades of cotton candy floss dotted round catwalks and the streets, how could we all resist! Source: whowhatwear.com Source: LaurenConrad.com Well this season's new pastel on the block seems to be hues of sky blue and green. Resembling clear skies and the ocean, giving fashionistas alike the optimism to hope for an early Spring in the air. There's always a subtle allure with pastels during spring that is well contrasted from the dramatic attractions of rich colours like burgundy and royal blue for autumn/winter. The softness in pastels create a look of gentle elegance but be no fool, it has the power to make quite a statement, especially when styled with sleek black. Art in Fashion II: Making Statements on High Street

Art prints in fashion are the next must-buy items on high street. Not only are they eye-catching at first sight (speaking about getting all the right attention), but also an extension of personal statements about the inner artist and fashionista. Coming from an artistic background myself, I'm instinctively drawn to unique prints and design when browsing through online or retail shops. If you haven't already spotted, there're quite a number of recurring arty motifs on dresses or skirts dotted around various high-street favourites, namely Zara and River Island (see below). Fashion has always been an extended relation to the art world; designers are the artists, garments are the artworks that translate the artists' vision and dreams. As buyers, I feel that we own a certain right to having chosen specific pieces of artistic statement pieces. They reflect our personal taste and for some, the inner values and persona we are individually.  Image courtesy of River Island ...

Styling Blue Pineapples

This is another blog post on 'what the interns are wearing', and today I'm here to talk about 'Blue Pineapples' . This particular design is inspired by the Merlin Charity , who develops projects in Asia and Africa delivering medical expertise to countries shattered by war or suffering from natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. The illustrations represent the national symbols of the countries where Merlin's work is currently being carried out. This is one of Cup of Daisies ' most favoured scarf and personally mine too. I think it's something to do with the striking contrast of the blue and white colours faintly representing an elegant china vase. I was going for an old style glamour look and wanted the scarf to be worn as a centre head piece.  With the head piece in mind, I worked my outfit around it and decided to pair the look with a two piece combo which I purchased recently from the H&M Trend collection for the season, a ...

Twirling among fall leaves

( CUP OF DAISIES LADY RED scarf , H&M Trend crop top, Topshop flared skirt, Zara studded heels, D&G quilted bag) One more week left before the autumn term breaks for Christmas holidays. I'm currently on the MA Arts Management course at RWCMD, Cardiff. One year full-time student, though this is year marks my 5th academic year in Cardiff. Can't believe how quickly time flies- already 3 months in as a masters student, while distant memories of the undergrad graduation over the summer can sometimes still feel like yesterday.   December is always the month to reflect on the passing year, and the one ahead. Personally, I love the excitement of what the future will hold. Joan x photos courtesy of Mark Tan

'Between Bowties & Lady Butterflies'

Outfit details of the week: H&M Trend floral crop top purchased from my latest London trip two weeks ago.  Absolutely adore the print on this particular top, the combination of colours are striking yet brings together a blend of sophistication. What makes it super on trend is that it's made out of the scuba material which is super big this season, and if you haven't' noticed, the cropped length has absolutely taken over the runways! What's not to like.  Paired it with my lovely Topshop white thick cotton flared skirt for a clean crisp look. Love the contrast between the prints and clean crisp skirt.  White is the season's new black. These red hot studded kitten heels from Zara have been a good bargain from last season's sale and I've never regretted getting them.  To top it off, I've styled it with one of our very own CUP OF DAISIES scarves, and I knew instantly it had to be the Lady Red scarf. Fun fact: This particular...
