Show of the Day

On the 23rd of October I skipped the ordinary introduction and instead of presenting my eclectic art and scarves , I went on travelling around the Cardiff town to watch Lord of the Flies, a contemporary dance production under the direction of Matthew Bourne and Scott Ambler.

Set design and costumes depicted contemporary school uniforms, and with a mystical touch the designers are reconstructing the deserted island between red, green and yellow lights, nevertheless using mist and a heavy use of metal display. The props on the stage had a multi purpose as the dancers will climb, jump and dance their ritual.

Every space available was used within the performance and the excellent choreography made the amateurs  young students to blend and achieve exceptional standards. The fluidity of the action projected the dance as soft and poetic, cutting out the violence of the acting which it is very well explained in the fantastic novel of William Golding. The story, the action and the movement were unified under the enchanting tribal sounds feeling the savage atmosphere with emotional intensity.

The most fantastic side of the project is the training of students from depraved areas along with professionals, inspiring young teenagers to join the industry and making a powerful difference in their lives.
The touring brought 13 cities together to celebrate contemporary dance and performance.

Art in Fashion I: J.W. Anderson LFW

'Art in Fashion' is the next big trend! Inspired by English painter Graham Sutherland, J.W. Anderson's latest "pretty ugly" collection at London Fashion Week (LFW) 2014 offered an artful distortion of construction over unconventional palette. British designer, J.W.Anderson has once again created a collection to challenge the audience's take on art within fashion. Photo: Isidore Montag "In plebeian terms, if "pretty ugly" were a thing, Anderson nailed it. Citing English modern painter Graham Sutherland as a reference point, Anderson appropriated the queasy colour palette of alien green, murky mustards, watery browns, moss and greys from Sutherland's paintings onto his collection. Anderson went further by employing "ugly" fabrics like corduroy, black satin and a two-toned seaweed woven mix as a personal challenge this time. Admittedly, some of these fabrics are among his most abhorred." It is the very juxtaposition ...

Styling Blue Pineapples

This is another blog post on 'what the interns are wearing', and today I'm here to talk about 'Blue Pineapples' . This particular design is inspired by the Merlin Charity , who develops projects in Asia and Africa delivering medical expertise to countries shattered by war or suffering from natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. The illustrations represent the national symbols of the countries where Merlin's work is currently being carried out. This is one of Cup of Daisies ' most favoured scarf and personally mine too. I think it's something to do with the striking contrast of the blue and white colours faintly representing an elegant china vase. I was going for an old style glamour look and wanted the scarf to be worn as a centre head piece.  With the head piece in mind, I worked my outfit around it and decided to pair the look with a two piece combo which I purchased recently from the H&M Trend collection for the season, a ...
