Pop Fashion

Modern consumerism and today's popular culture has made a come back to the fashion world, and is definitely one of the most talked-about concept, as seen in recent fashion weeks for a/w 2014. By now, everyone would have seen and heard of the great phenomenon known as the Chanel Shopping Centre at Paris Fashion Week that has left everyone hooked on the idea and the iconic 'fast-fashion' pieces with a playful nod of acknowledgement towards society's biggest fast food enterprise as seen at Moschino for Milan Fashion Week, which has left world-wide fashionistas talking for days, weeks and probably the entire season.

Chanel shows have always been pushing the boundaries of what is conceived to be traditional catwalk showcases, and the shopping centre concept is so relatable to everyone as a common place to visit, that it has undoubtedly brought an element of realism into a high-fashion event. There was an element of playfulness, fun and a whole bunch of colourful creativity behind the show's set that is truly innovative and unique. It makes us all realise that fashion can and should be fun!

I'm all for serious fashion and fashion events by all means, are to celebrate exquisite craftsmanship in the detail to design. But every now and then, you've got to agree that having the ability to make fashion come across as fun and possibly accessible, especially in such a highly compatible industry, is worth the nod of respect and a chuckle of how brilliant a concept it is.

So what are the bold statements from these designers? Is it stating that in today's modern culture and ever evolving economy, high-fashion is no longer exclusively for the elite but coming to be more accessible and equalised within society? Or just a mild passing mockery of creative brilliance to start a new trend and a reason for fashion collectors to fight over limited edition pieces? One can agree on both, either or neither but you've got to admit that the pieces are super catchy and just like Pop-Art, it will always look cool and in fashion.

'Between Bowties & Lady Butterflies'

Outfit details of the week: H&M Trend floral crop top purchased from my latest London trip two weeks ago.  Absolutely adore the print on this particular top, the combination of colours are striking yet brings together a blend of sophistication. What makes it super on trend is that it's made out of the scuba material which is super big this season, and if you haven't' noticed, the cropped length has absolutely taken over the runways! What's not to like.  Paired it with my lovely Topshop white thick cotton flared skirt for a clean crisp look. Love the contrast between the prints and clean crisp skirt.  White is the season's new black. These red hot studded kitten heels from Zara have been a good bargain from last season's sale and I've never regretted getting them.  To top it off, I've styled it with one of our very own CUP OF DAISIES scarves, and I knew instantly it had to be the Lady Red scarf. Fun fact: This particular

3 of the Hottest Accessory Trends for SS21

Just because lockdown restrictions are starting to ease doesn’t mean that you have to go out and buy a brand new outfit. Sure, you want to feel and look good at social events after a year of emotional turmoil. (We get it.) That said, sometimes all it takes is the right accessory to tap into current trends and take your style to the next level. Speaking of, here are 3 of the best accessory trends for Spring/Summer 2021 that would make the perfect addition to your existing wardrobe. Utilitarian Bags Firstly, it’s almost like the fashion industry has accounted for the fact that most of us haven’t needed a handbag in months. By introducing pretty-yet-practical options across the SS21 catwalks , they’re easing us back into the practice of carrying a bag. From Kenzo’s slouchy waist belt, to phone lanyards at Versace, to Dior’s straw grab-and-go versions, the focus is on the smaller, the better.  However, simplified, medium-size bags also did the rounds at Hermès and Prada for those who can’

Art in Fashion I: J.W. Anderson LFW

'Art in Fashion' is the next big trend! Inspired by English painter Graham Sutherland, J.W. Anderson's latest "pretty ugly" collection at London Fashion Week (LFW) 2014 offered an artful distortion of construction over unconventional palette. British designer, J.W.Anderson has once again created a collection to challenge the audience's take on art within fashion. Photo: Isidore Montag "In plebeian terms, if "pretty ugly" were a thing, Anderson nailed it. Citing English modern painter Graham Sutherland as a reference point, Anderson appropriated the queasy colour palette of alien green, murky mustards, watery browns, moss and greys from Sutherland's paintings onto his collection. Anderson went further by employing "ugly" fabrics like corduroy, black satin and a two-toned seaweed woven mix as a personal challenge this time. Admittedly, some of these fabrics are among his most abhorred." It is the very juxtaposition
